Continue through the delta, then cross into Cambodia, travelling up the Mekong to Phnom Penh. The Cambodian capital brings a different history, architecture and cuisine, while keeping the river at the centre of the journey.
From Phnom Penh, continue to Siem Reap and Angkor. Here the journey leaves present-day Cambodia behind for the temples and landscapes of the Khmer Empire.
Most routes between Vietnam and Cambodia skip straight from one big city to the other. Following the Mekong instead means the crossing itself becomes part of the trip. The river doesn’t just connect the two countries: it explains much of how they really live.
A gradual journey built around the river, alternating cities with slower days on the water, before ending at Angkor.
