Isaan
Leave Bangkok behind for Isaan: rice fields, small towns, Khmer heritage and one of Thailand’s boldest regional cuisines. Ancient sandstone temples rise out of the countryside, often with barely another visitor in sight.

Travel through the countryside, stopping at local markets and in villages rarely included in a first trip to Thailand. The pace here is slower and more rural, shaped by rice farming and small-town life.
Continue towards the Mekong, where life is closely connected to the river and the pace becomes noticeably slower. Fishing villages, riverside markets and long stretches of countryside frame the days here. The focus is less on major sights and more on the places, food and people encountered along the way.
From Isaan, a flight takes you back to Bangkok, then the road and a boat to Koh Kood, off the east coast. The island brings together forest, waterfalls, fishing hamlets and quiet beaches. There is plenty of time left free to enjoy them, and very little infrastructure to get in the way.
Most first-time visitors never leave Thailand’s main circuit. This journey does: it trades famous names for Isaan’s temples and food, a quieter Mekong and an island that is still lightly developed.
Slower and more exploratory, with time for local stops and places that aren’t built around tourism. Then Koh Kood, deliberately unplanned.
